RWANDA GOVERNANCE BOARD (RGB) PAYS VISIT TO SDHA

The objective of the visit of RGB was to see assess the NGO operations, its activities and achievements since it was offered an official registration and took time to assess the institutional development and daily operations and management of SDHA.

Two RGB delegates, Mr. Pascal MUTEMBEREZI and Mr. Arthur KAYITANA who are RGB staff in charge of NGOs activities RGB delegates interacted with SDHA Team spearheaded by Mr Jean Pierre HAKIZIMANA, and included Mr. Muhizi Leopold the member of the Executive Committee and staff-members including the volunteers.

 RGB delegates appreciated the functioning of SDHA especially the professional management and transparency, proper functioning of the statutory organs (Executive committee, Audit committee and general assembly) after assessing the finance and organ minutes’ archives.. On SDHA side, the RGB Official were received by SDHA Team made of its Legal Representative.

After the office exchanges, RGB sampled one project for field visit “Buriza water project” located in Muhanga, Shyogwe Sector and Mbare cell.  At the site RGB delegates interacted with SDHA engineers who explained the project design and implementation processes.

RGB met the direct beneficiaries in the village who participated in the whole project cycle from the design to works, and who currently benefit from the project. RGB found that 2300 beneficiaries have access to clean water and that improved their livelihoods especially women, children and farmers.

In his testimony, Mr Pierre Claver Uwimana, the farmer (8 cattle and horticulture farming activities) was happy and thanked SDHA for the water project because he cut down the water cost he collected before the project (from 60,000Rwf to 8,000Rwf). He said that the money he spent before is used to cover other family expenses especially expanding his farming activities

The Buriza  Water supply project was implemented  based on self-reliance approach , a model appreciated by delegates for its feature of  involving  citizens  hence they encouraged  beneficiaries  to  maintain the infrastructure.
