- Context
SDHA is an NGO launched in 2014 and nationally recognized in 2017 under registration No 326/RGB/NGO/OC/10/2017.
SDHA’s mission is to promote sustainable development and wellbeing by means of environment protection, rural livelihoods, education and humanitarian initiatives. SDHA has its footprint in community projects, action research and needs assessment in Rwanda. Key areas of intervention include environmental and natural resource management, and community food security and livelihoods initiatives
To deliver on its mandate, SDHA partners with a range of stakeholders including public, civil society and academic and research institutions. SDHA is partnering with ISARO Community Initiative, a UK based charity with a strong interest and expertise in climate action projects secured a grant to conduct a feasibility study entitled “Feasibility Study on holistic and sustainable approaches to increase food security through climate resilience in the Makera watershed”. The study is funded by the Scottish Government as part of the Scottish Government International Development Programme.
- Objective and scope
The overall objective of this study is to provide an in-depth analysis of the link between climate change and food insecurity for smallholder farmers operating within Makera Watershed. The outcome of this analysis should provide strategic recommendations to increase resilience and reduce vulnerability to climate change within the Watershed.
The study will focus on the watershed of Makera covering the Nyamabuye, Cyeza and Muhanga Sectors of Muhanga District, Southern Province, Rwanda. The study will be undertaken over the period from May to September 2019.
