Reports from Rwanda’s Local news sites UMUSEKE.RW and KTPRESS.RW indicate that after few hours of Rwanda – DR Congo border closure over fears of Ebola outbreak, trans-boundary movement resumed. It is reported that morning hours residents were tipped on their safety and ways to avoid exposing to Ebola spread. Also KTPRESS.RW reported early this morning of August 1, 2019, that Thousands of Rwandans in Rubavu district bordering Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) woke up to a direction that they will not cross the busiest border on Thursday, KT Press has learnt.
On border closure, Rwanda’s Health Minister Dr. Diane Gashumba told the media that the border never closed.
“Rwanda has not closed its border with DRC. What you are reading in media is not true, but people simply misunderstood the situation at the border this morning,” Gashumba told the media.
Thousands of DRC citizens were also not allowed to cross over to Rwanda, as the country tightens its territory against a possible Ebola outbreak, Kigali Today reporter at the border reported this morning.
The Ministry of Health affirms that #Rwanda’s border with the Democratic Republic of Congo is open for travels as usual.
To date, Rwanda remains #Ebola free. However, the public is strongly advised to avoid unnecessary travels to affected areas.

The Ministry of Health in Rwanda ensures citizens that no Ebola case has been recorded yet. Preparations and awareness are ongoing.
