SDHA Ready for Humanitarian Emergency Response for People Affected by Earthquake in Rubavu District

Sustainable Development and Humanitarian Action (SDHA) has resolved to  join the rest of Humanitarian emergency team  in  delivering  humanitarian  support  to people  affected by  Earthquake resulted from  the  recent eruption of Mount Nyiragongo Eruption early  last week.

SDHA is member of National preparedness contingency plan set up by Ministry of Disaster Management (MINEMA), in WASH cluster.

 The organization is working closely with institutions under auspices including MINEMA and the Rubavu District to identify the needy people.

SDHA is currently conducting needs assessment for Water, Hygiene and Sanitation and has availed 30 volunteers who are ready to support. The emergency response team will also  play key role in community awareness and mobilizations as  assistance will be offered  by all stakeholders involved in humanitarian action.

Numbers of people affected by volcanic eruption continues to rise. Currently  approximately 500 displaced  population emigrated to Rwanda  while some of  local  Rubavu  District dwellers  continue to  lose  their  properties due to  continuous earthquake.
