SDHA Launches Integrated Project for Young Girls’ Education, Leadership and Behavior Change

On 6th January 2020, SDHA launched Project entitled launched “Integrated Project for Young Girls’ Education, Leadership and Behavior Change’’. The project was launched in Muhanga District, Southern Province.

The project benefits 100 students from  selected households and three primary schools namely : Ruli ‘Catholique’ in Shyogwe, Gitongati in Muhanga and Rutarabana in Nyamabuye sectors all of Muhanga District.

The project aims at providing an inclusive education to children from poor families for accessing basic education, coaching those students and their parents as well as supporting beneficiary schools for hygiene and sanitation.

The function was colored with distribution of school materials to students and hygienic equipment’s to the schools. SDHA board member Mr Leopold Muhizi represented the organization.

The expected results of the intervention are (1) increased education performance for students (grades), (2) improved youth leadership index and positive sexual behavior change as well as (3) improved hygiene and sanitation practices in the partner-schools.

The launched project is linked of Five  priority Action-research areas  which are  agriculture and food security, water management, environment  and Climate change, community empowerment as well as gender and social inclusion.

Using Action Research Approach (ARA), SDHA believes that the outcome will benefit community, in knowledge management through the best practices sharing with other communities and interested stakeholders but also to use for policy advocacy.

The approach also aims at finding appropriate solutions to community issues by testing the development models with, by and for beneficiaries to find valid and reliable results to duplicate widely among the same communities and elsewhere in a shared context.
